Premier League transfer news and rumours

Real ‘monitoring’ Sterling

Champions League holders Real Madrid are once again linked with Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling.

Real sources have told ESPN they are “monitoring” Sterling’s contract situation at the Etihad. His current contract runs out in two years and there is “no sign of a new deal being agreed as yet”.

In December last year Sterling told The Sun he would be open to a move abroad in the future. He said: “Definitely, it would be nice to play abroad. It would be a great experience. Spain’s attractive. Anywhere the weather is nice really.”

The Daily Express says that Real still need to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and Sterling could fit the bill.

Barkley inspired by Hazard

Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley hopes that “inspirational” Eden Hazard will stay long term at Stamford Bridge. Hazard said earlier this week that he “dreams” of playing for Real Madrid, but Barkley hopes to play alongside the Belgian for “many more years”. Barkley said: “He’s a magnificent player. It’s important [he stays] because he’s been at Chelsea for a long time. He’s achieved so much. But I can’t speak for Eden. He knows in his mind what he wants but I’d love to play with him for many more years.” (Sky Sports)

Jordi Alba: Barcelona to Manchester United

Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho is reportedly interested in Barcelona left-back Jordi Alba. The 29-year-old defender has stalled on a new contract at the Camp Nou and this has put United on alert. (Daily Mirror)

Lingard set for new deal

On the subject of contracts, Manchester United will “initiate talks” with Jesse Lingard over a new deal. The England midfielder’s contract will be reviewed by the Old Trafford club and he’s expected to pen new terms in 2019. (Metro)

United missed out on Perisic over £3m

Jose Mourinho wanted to sign Inter Milan and Croatia star Ivan Perisic, who was available this summer for £48m. However, according to reports Mourinho was left “desperately frustrated” because United executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward was only willing to pay £45m. (London Evening Standard)

Barca target Ajax star de Ligt

Barcelona want to sign Ajax and Holland defender Matthijs de Ligt as a long-term replacement for Gerard Pique. The 19-year-old had previously been linked with Manchester City and Tottenham, but Barca are set to make a move for their “No.1 transfer target”. (Daily Mail)

Divock Origi: Liverpool to Galatasaray

Turkish giants Galatasaray are keen on a January loan move for Liverpool “outcast” Divock Origi. The Belgium striker is on Galatasaray’s shortlist and they hope the opportunity of regular first-team football will persuade him to leave Anfield. (Turkish-Football)
