Real ‘monitoring’ Sterling
Champions League holders Real Madrid are once again linked with Manchester City and England forward Raheem Sterling.
Real sources have told ESPN they are “monitoring” Sterling’s contract situation at the Etihad. His current contract runs out in two years and there is “no sign of a new deal being agreed as yet”.
In December last year Sterling told The Sun he would be open to a move abroad in the future. He said: “Definitely, it would be nice to play abroad. It would be a great experience. Spain’s attractive. Anywhere the weather is nice really.”
The Daily Express says that Real still need to replace Cristiano Ronaldo and Sterling could fit the bill.
Barkley inspired by Hazard
Chelsea midfielder Ross Barkley hopes that “inspirational” Eden Hazard will stay long term at Stamford Bridge. Hazard said earlier this week that he “dreams” of playing for Real Madrid, but Barkley hopes to play alongside the Belgian for “many more years”. Barkley said: “He’s a magnificent player. It’s important [he stays] because he’s been at Chelsea for a long time. He’s achieved so much. But I can’t speak for Eden. He knows in his mind what he wants but I’d love to play with him for many more years.” (Sky Sports)
