Premier League transfer news and rumours
Sterling wants big pay rise
Raheem Sterling wants a £100,000-a-week pay increase in his new contract at Manchester City.
The 23-year-old forward has been linked with Real Madrid in recent weeks but according to The Times he is happy to stay with the Premier League champions.
England forward Sterling’s current £175,000-a-week contract expires in 2020 and he could become one of the club’s highest-paid players if a new £275,000-a-week deal is agreed. Talks between Sterling’s agent and City are set to resume within the next few days, says the Times.
Ferguson wanted Gundogan to replace Scholes
Ilkay Gundogan has become a key player for Manchester City but according to the London Evening Standard the German international could have been playing for their rivals. In 2013 former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson scouted Gundogan as a potential replacement for Paul Scholes in the Old Trafford midfield. However, the move never happened as Ferguson left the club at the end of the 2013 season.
Puel unsure of Maguire buy-out clause
Sky Sports reports that Leicester City manager Claude Puel is unsure if Harry Maguire has a buy-out clause in his new five-year contract. However, Puel told the Daily Express that after the England defender penned the new deal “it’s not in my mind or Harry’s mind to leave the club after just one season”. Maguire was linked with Manchester United this summer.
Pochettino: Alderweireld could sign new deal
Another defender heavily linked with a move to Manchester United this summer was Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld. The Belgium international was expected to leave Spurs after his contract talks stalled, but boss Mauricio Pochettino has now hinted that the 29-year-old could extend his stay. (Daily Express)
Loftus-Cheek back to Palace?
Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson says he would be keen on bringing Ruben Loftus-Cheek back to the club if the Chelsea midfielder was available for a loan move in January. Hodgson said: “If the question was ‘should Ruben Loftus-Cheek be made available in January, would Crystal Palace be interested in loaning him again?’ then the answer is ‘yes’.” (Sky Sports)
Roma look to amend stars’ contracts
Roma want to “eliminate the release clauses” in the contracts of their star players to ward off interest from clubs across Europe. Greek defender Kostas Manolas is a target for Chelsea and Manchester United while midfielder Lorenzo Pellegrini has been linked with Manchester City. (Calciomercato)
