Liverpool players celebrate scoring against Brighton
Wednesday, December 6, 2017
We’re into the final round of Champions League stages and Liverpool are still not guaranteed top spot in Group E.
It’s been tough for the Reds and, despite leading their opponents in every fixture, they have only won two of their games, while drawing the other three.
This leaves them on nine points, one ahead of Sevilla, and three points ahead of Wednesday’s opponents Spartak Moscow, while Maribor have already been eliminated.
To finish top of Group E, Liverpool must defeat their Russian opponents, while a draw will ensure they at least finish second.
If Jurgen Klopp’s men do draw with Spartak Moscow, they will be leapfrogged by Sevilla, but only if the Spaniards beat Maribor.
And if Liverpool lose to Spartak Moscow and Sevilla beat Maribor they will drop down into third place, which sees them qualify for the Europa League knockout stages.
