Juan Mata has turned down the opportunity to sign a money-spinning move to join the Chinese Super League

Mata is expected to extend his stay at Manchester United by a further year

Juan Mata has turned down a money-spinning move to join the Chinese Super League and is now likely to extend his stay at Old Trafford.

Mata is expected to stay at United with boss Jose Mourinho poised to trigger a clause in his contract that would extend his stay by a year.

The Spain international was approached by representatives from China to gauge his interest in moving and was offered a huge rise on his current £165,000-a-week wages.

But Mata has decided to reject the offer and will stay at United at least until the summer of 2019.

Meanwhile, Ander Herrera is expected to extend his stay, despite the lack of opportunities offered to him since the arrival of Nemanja Matic.

Herrera was United’s player of the year last season, but has dropped down the pecking order this term.

Despite this, Mourinho will rubber-stamp a one-year extension for Herrera in the coming weeks.
