Former Manchester United great Paul Scholes could be considering a step into management after the 42-year-old reportedly held talks with League One side Oldham Athletic.

The head coach position has been vacant since September 25 after John Sheridan left by mutual consent.

Scholes, who made over 700 appearances for the Red Devils, is a boyhood fan of the club and his affection for the team could see him step into the managerial hot seat for the first time in his career.

At the end of September former Netherlands great Clarence Seedorf was interviewed by the club but talk of him moving to Oldham has died down.

The club currently lie 19th in the League One table, with Richie Wellens in caretaker charge, but last week it was revealed none of the staff had been paid their September wages.

Wellens has also made it clear that he would like to be considered for the full-time position after winning all three of his games in charge.
