A major search operation for a diver who went missing off the coast of Co Donegal has resumed.

The man, who is believed to be Canadian, went missing shortly after 2.30pm on Saturday when he was diving with a group 14 miles north west off Malin Head.

Group members on a dive boat reported him missing after failing to see him resurface.

The Sligo-based Rescue 118 helicopter was sent to the scene and an emergency Mayday call was put out to vessels in the area.

Search efforts were stood down for the night and resumed on Sunday morning.

Lifeboats from Lough Swilly and Portrush are involved in the operation.
