A young boy has died after being hit by a vehicle in Bessbrook, Co Armagh.

The crash happened in Dobsons Way in the village on Friday morning.

“The young boy was taken to hospital for treatment but unfortunately died from his injuries,” a PSNI spokesman said.

Ulster Unionist Councillor David Taylor said he was “very sorry to hear of the tragic passing of the young boy”.

He said the news “has come as a great shock to the entire local community”.

“This is a heartbreaking incident,” he added.

“My thoughts and prayers are with his family at this very sad time and I hope and trust they will find the necessary strength to cope with their grief over the difficult days which lie ahead.”

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them in Newry.
