A property in Newtownards has had its windows smashed and been damaged in an arson attack.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information about the incident in the Meadow Park area of the town to come forward.

A short time after 5am on July 16, police received a report that six windows had been smashed and entry had been gained to the property, something which had caused damage to the interior doors.

At this point the PSNI attended the scene to help secure the premises.

Then, around two hours later after 7am, police received reports that the property had been set alight with extensive damage caused to the its downstairs and smoke damage to the rest of the house.

Speaking about the incident, Sergeant McGrory said: “Thankfully in the intervening period between the two attacks the occupant had left the property and as a result nobody was injured. These were quite reckless acts and we would wish to see the perpetrators brought to justice.”

Anyone with any information about the incident is asked to contact the PSNI on the non-emergency number 101 quoting reference number 380 of 16/07/2017. Alternatively the public can also contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
